£300,000 to save Jessica's Life

You may have read in the press recently the story of Jessica Findlay, four-year-old daughter of Rachel Findlay of Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland, who was diagnosed with "severe multiple bilateral pulmonary stenosis" when she was 18 months old. The arteries surrounding Jessica's lungs and heart have narrowed so much that it is extremely hard for her heart to circulate blood around her small body. She has had six operations over the years which attempted to enlarge these arteries with stents and balloons, but the surgeries were unsuccessful. The last of these was in October of 2007.

Rachel was told recently that her daughter's heart and lungs have become so badly damaged that she could die at any time. She was told to go home and plan Jessica's funeral--that there was nothing her doctors could do for her. She planned her daughter's funeral last year.

As to her present condition, Rachel says, "She can only walk short distances before becoming exhausted. We still use her baby buggy all the time. She must take naps every few hours.
She attends a nursery school, but can only stay for two hours at a time, two days a week. She turns blue and falls down when she becomes too tired. She wears clothes labelled for a 2 year-old child and weighs only 2.5 stone (35 pounds)."

Doctors have managed to ease Jessica's suffering by prescribing doses of  the erectile dysfunction drug 'Viagra'a which lessens the strain on her heart.
It is estimated that around 200 children in the UK have been given viagra for various arterial complications since its invention.

After reading about Jessica's situation in an article in the Ayrshire Post, 'Bonnie Fountain' from Alabama contacted Rachel and informed her that she had contacted Dr. Frank Hanley, Chief of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery at Lucile Childrens Hospital in California.

He is an internationally renowned specialist in cardiac surgery. She said that Dr. Frank Hanley would be glad to evaluate Jessica's case to decide if he thought anything could be done for her, preferably to rebuild the arteries, but possibly to perform both

heart and lung transplants. Although there are extreme risks involved in such procedures, Rachel feels that this is Jessica's only chance for a normal life and lifespan. click to read more on the life saving journey
